How do I make an appointment?

You may schedule with me via phone/text (920-659-0078) . Once you are a registered client you will have access to a secure portal for scheduling, secure messaging, billing and tele-health sessions.

What can I expect from my first appointment?

The first appointment after a brief phone consultation will be to review your intake paperwork discussing any questions your provider has from your responses and or discussing your main concerns.

How long does therapy take?

Psychotherapy lasts as long as you need it or you make it. Some individuals need to meet once weekly, twice weekly, or can go every other week to once a month. Depending on what you are coming in for, and how it is affecting your quality of life is what determines your treatment schedule. I may give homework for between sessions, and depending on the amount of effort you put into therapy will also determine length of treatment.

(For example, one may have experienced a trauma – or an experience that gave them negative feelings. They never talked about the experience and allowed themselves to cover it up. By covering it up and ignoring the experience and the negative emotions connected to it those buried feelings may come out as anxiety or depression. This anxiety and depression took a while to make an appearance to have an official term for it, and it’s going to take time to work through them, figure out how to live with them, accept the experience and feelings associated with it, and then be able to pack up those memories and feelings to safely store them away.)(Also If client x chooses not to do their homework / practice exposures or mindfullness between sessions they may need extra practice in session therefore extending treatment vs client y who does practice their mindfulness and thought journaling and is able to move onto new topics faster.)

What is your cancellation policy? Please call 24 hours in advance to cancel your appointment. There is a charge for late cancelled appointments and no shows , but multiple late cancels/no-shows may end in termination of services.

What happens if I miss multiple appointment?

We can terminate service after three missed or unpaid for sessions. We will attempt to reach the client twice before considering the session a no show and will send either a paper or digital reminder letter within 24 hours of the no showed session. No show fees will be charged at the end of the day on the card on file.

What if I decide that counseling isn’t right for me or that the counselor isn’t a good fit?

Many come to counseling and have this feeling; some may decide they are not ready to talk about certain experiences due to intense feelings that may come up or the commitment to coming into a weekly / biweekly / monthly appointment.  All we ask is that you communicate this to your provider instead of not showing up or canceling follow up visits. We ask that you give your provider a chance to get past the initial evaluation period and come up with a treatment plan (3 sessions) before you make any decisions, this gives us both an opportunity to see how each other responds. if you still feel your provider is not a good fit or therapy is not for you, we can discuss referrals to other clinics which may be more appropriate.

Does the parent need to stay for the session of a minor?

If you need to leave please let your provider know ahead of time or at the time of session, leave a phone number to be reached and We ask that you return before the end of session in case of ending early. Sessions can range from 45-60 minutes.

Will you write emotional support letters or ESA ?

No

What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is an alternative to traditional talk therapy, where creative media is incorporated into the session to facilitate discussion to assist in decreasing the stress caused by talking about negative thoughts, memories and feelings.

What type of training do you need to be an Art Therapist?

One needs a master’s degree. I have a duel degree masters in Art Therapy and Mental Health Counseling from Springfield College in Massachusetts.

Why did you go to school in Massachusetts?

The Midwest schools that Samantha interviewed at had so many applicants the year She was applying that it made sense to look at other schools as a backup. Springfield had a smaller newer program which was recognized and accredited by the American Art Therapy Association and it gave her a chance to explore a different culture from growing up in the Midwest. She also liked that the program was primarily art based. If you are looking into schools for Art Therapy, feel free to contact Samantha as a mentor in discussing what it is about art therapy you like, what you’re looking for in a program, and your future goals to help you in your journey of becoming an Art Therapist.

How does Art Therapy differ from arts and crafts?

Arts and crafts can be considered “using art as healing”. Sometimes creating brings up emotions, with an art therapist these feeling can be processed safely in a nonjudgmental environment with someone who has been trained in the mental health field.

Do you need to be artistic to participate in Art Therapy?

No, in fact we tell our patients it’s better to go by intuition when creating then to have professional background in art. Your provider can teach you how to use the materials and your subconscious can lead the way through intuition. If you think too much, it tends to block the creativity and the internal voices which control the anxiety. By keeping it free the subconscious is allowed to speak in a productive way releasing concerns which may cause behavioral patterns and symptoms of anxiety or depression.
